A calming option for children who need extra support during treatment.
Pediatric nitrous oxide/laughing gas at North Shore Smiles
Nitrous oxide can help children who need a little extra calm during treatment. Dr. Tiana uses it from age 18 months and up — as long as the child is comfortable keeping the small nasal hood on, and most are.
What's included
- Available from 18 months and up if the child can tolerate the nasal hood
- Light food up to about two hours before the visit; nothing heavy right before
- Recovery is quick — kids breathe pure oxygen for about 5–10 minutes after, and most feel back to normal walking out the door
- Some children feel mildly tired afterward, which passes quickly
